Experimental

A collection of experimental 3D work I've made in my spare time.

Building my apartment in Unreal

This idea came about when a colleague quipped about wanting to buy a Dieter Rams shelves, but having a look at the price of getting one I quickly realised it's not something I'd consider ever purchasing. But I could build it, not in real life, but with polygons. But first I needed to build my apartment into Unreal Engine to house it.

Apollo 13

Trying out Redshift's NPR Renderer. Look inspired by Hergé and Moebius.

Scott Pilgrim's Apartment

My first real foray into Unreal Engine. This is Scott Pilgrim's studio apartment he shares with his friend Wallace in Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.

Beastie Boys

This one never got past the previs stage unfortunately. I mashed vocal tracks from two Beastie Boys songs and recorded my own guitar and bass and programmed some drums over it. I also got to repurpose a few of my old assets. The rest of the environment was sourced from Kitbash3D.

Bluey X Dune

If Bluey and Dune had a crossover.

If Portishead would make FX pedals

Partially, accidentally also inspired by Arcane as I was watching it while working on this.

Note: This is entirely fictional and no way commissioned by or associated with the Portishead

The Day of the Triffids

Carnivorous plants are cool.

Gaming Arcades

Two fictional gaming arcades. Wonder what the gameplay is like.

22, A Million - Bon Iver

Bon Iver’s album 22, A Million interpreted as a wine brand with good packaging but underwhelming taste.

Dirty Computer

Fan art for Janelle Monae’s album Dirty Computer.

Japanese Vending Machine

I got enamoured by the endless vending machine in Tokyo, like most tourists who visit Japan. Thought I'd model one for fun. Most of the time was taken making all the drink designs.

Itachi いたち

This scene started its life as Loop de loop animation but I ran out of time. It sat on my hard drive for about 3 months until I noticed it and thought I could do some with it. いたち (Itachi) is the Japanese word for weasel. But in Japan it can also have other means. Japan Subculture Research Center reckons:

itachi (鼬・いたち): a weasel, but in the yakuza world also slang for a very good police detective. いたちごっこ(itachgokko) “to act like a weasel” refers to a game that Japanese children play in which it is impossible for either side to win. The police versus the yakuza war which has been going on since 1965 is often referred to as itachigokko.

Sticking chopstick in rice vertically is a big taboo in Japan, as it is reserved for funeral practices. But in this scene it kind of works.

Iridescence

Trying to build shaders in Redshift with the iridescent effect. Inspired by the film Annihilation.

THX1138

Battle of the Bosses

Another Mixamo special. I miss working on A&E, brand didn't take itself very seriously so there was always room to do silly thing.

RUN: 30sec Short

Made in literally a couple of hours using Mixamo and Cinema4D Standard renderer (optimised to render as fast as possible). At the time (2017), I didn't like the look of it but now with the advent of AI it has some value. It was loosely inspired by the picture of planet Venus' surface taken by Soviet Venera probe.

Loop De Loop Entries

Some selected Loop de Loop entries back when that was a thing.
